주소는 flyhours.ludlet.com/?from=ICN&to=CDG처럼 공항 코드로 되어 있어서 직접 고쳐 써도 돼요.

공항 3,244곳의 이름과 좌표는 OurAirports(퍼블릭 도메인), 공항 시간대는 OpenFlights(ODbL), 지도의 육지 윤곽은 Natural Earth(퍼블릭 도메인)를 썼어요.

How the estimate works

This site doesn’t use airline schedules. It estimates the direct flight time from the distance between two airports, in three steps.

  1. Great-circle distance. From the two airports’ latitude and longitude we compute the shortest path along the Earth’s surface, treating the Earth as a sphere with a 6,371 km radius (haversine formula). This is the “Distance” shown in the result.
  2. Divide by an average speed. The distance is divided by an average of 800 km/h. Airliners cruise faster than that, but this is meant as an average ground speed that also covers climbing and descending. A simple westerly-wind adjustment is added: heading due east counts as 840 km/h, due west as 760 km/h, and due north or south as 800 km/h, with directions in between scaled by how far east or west they point. The direction used is the initial heading at departure (the “Initial heading” in the result).
  3. Add takeoff and landing time. 40 minutes are added for takeoff, climb, approach and landing, and the total is rounded to the nearest 5 minutes.

Estimate ≈ great-circle distance ÷ (800 km/h + 40 km/h × eastward component) + 40 min

For example, Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Los Angeles (LAX) is about 9,630 km. Departing to the northeast with the tailwind adjustment gives about 12 h 15 min, while LAX to ICN comes out at about 13 h 10 min.

The rings on the map mark each hour of flying without the wind adjustment, so for cities due east or west the result can differ a little from what the rings suggest. Airline timetables show “block time”, from leaving the gate to arriving at the gate, which includes taxiing and a buffer for congestion, so they can differ from this estimate too.

Why real flights take a different time

The same route can take a different time depending on direction and day. There are three main reasons.

Winds and the jet stream

High above the mid-latitudes, the jet stream blows from west to east and can exceed 200 km/h in winter. Eastbound flights ride the tailwind and go faster, while westbound flights fight a headwind. This site models that with a simple ±40 km/h, so on windy days the real difference can be larger. Why flying east is faster

Closed airspace and detours

When aircraft can’t cross a country’s airspace because of conflict or politics, they fly the long way around. Since 2022 many flights between Europe and East Asia avoid Russian airspace, so the real flight on those routes is often noticeably longer than the shortest-path estimate. Why flights to Europe got longer

Fixed airways and curved shortest paths

Aircraft follow published airways and fly a little farther than the great-circle distance because of air traffic control, weather and busy airports. Twin-engine airliners must also stay within a set flying time of a diversion airport (ETOPS), which can shape routes over oceans. On a flat map the shortest path looks curved because the Earth is round, which is also why the route on this map bends. Why flight routes look curved

How to use it

  • Your origin is set automatically to a large airport near where you’re connecting from. Tap the “From” box to change it.
  • In the “To” box, type a city name or a three-letter airport code (such as CDG or JFK) and pick from the list. Arrow keys and Enter work too.
  • The arrow button between the boxes swaps origin and destination, so you can compare the two directions.
  • Tap any city dot on the map to make it the destination. Drag to move the map, and scroll, pinch or use the +/− buttons to zoom. The target button brings the map back to your origin.
  • The popular cities list shows common destinations sorted by flight time. Tap one to select it.
  • Share the address in your browser to open the same route. It uses airport codes, like flyhours.ludlet.com/?from=ICN&to=CDG, so you can edit it by hand. Add &lang=ko for Korean.

FAQ

Are these real flight schedules?

No. No airline schedules or flight data are used; the times are estimates from distance and average speed. Use them for planning, and check the actual flight time with the airline or a booking site before you book.

Does the time difference include daylight saving time?

The time difference uses each airport’s time zone (for example Europe/Paris) and your browser’s time zone data to compare the two places right now, so daylight saving time in effect today is included. If your travel date falls after a daylight saving change, the difference may be off by an hour. You can estimate local arrival time as departure time + flight time + time difference.

Why does it show a time for routes with no direct flight?

The calculation uses only distance, with no route data, so it shows what a direct flight would take even where none exists. Direct flights may be missing because of low demand, because the distance is beyond an aircraft’s range, or because the two countries have no traffic rights for it. A connecting trip takes much longer once layovers are added.

Why is the return trip a different length?

Because of the westerly-wind adjustment: eastbound trips come out faster and westbound trips slower. For example, Incheon to Tokyo Narita is about 2 h 10 min, while Narita to Incheon is about 2 h 20 min.

Where does the data come from?

Names and coordinates for 3,244 airports come from OurAirports (public domain), airport time zones from OpenFlights (ODbL), and the land outlines on the map from Natural Earth (public domain). Full credits are at the bottom of the page.

How do you know my location, and is it stored?

On your first visit, your IP address is used to look up an approximate city so a nearby airport can be picked as the origin. It isn’t stored. Only your language choice is saved in your browser for next time.
